Keep Stepping

Walking by faith is not easy. Let's just say that plainly, because nobody does you any favors pretending otherwise. There are days it feels like stepping onto a floor you can't see, in a room you can't map, toward a door somebody only described to you. That's not comfortable. It's not supposed to be.

And I'll be honest about the other side of it: the world looks at that and calls it foolish. I get why. From the outside, faith looks like standing still while everybody else is running. It looks like refusing to grab the steering wheel. If you've never lived it, "just trust God" sounds like a slogan on a bumper sticker, not a strategy for a life.

But here's the thing nobody selling the alternative wants to talk about: walking *without* faith costs more. Way more.

Walk without faith long enough and watch what happens to your growth. Everything depends on what you can control, and you can't control much — so you stop reaching. Watch what happens to your happiness. It gets thin and brittle, because it's balanced entirely on circumstances going your way, and circumstances never cooperate for long. Watch what happens to your future. It shrinks down to exactly as far as your own eyes can see. And none of us can see very far.

Faith doesn't remove the hardship. It reframes it. The step you couldn't see the floor for? That's the one that grew you. The door that only got described to you? Walking toward it anyway is what hope actually is — not a feeling, a direction.

The world won't understand that. Scripture says as much — the world can't make sense of the things of God, because they're spiritually discerned, and the world is working with different instruments. That's not an insult. It's just a fact. You can't explain color to someone who insists on keeping their eyes closed.

But God's people will understand. They've taken the step. They know what it is to move when the map runs out. And every one of them has a story about the floor holding.

So keep stepping. Not because it's easy — it isn't. Because the alternative is smaller, darker, and lonelier, and you were made for more than that. Step when you can't see. Step when it doesn't make sense. Step when the world shakes its head.

Keep stepping.
