Monday Motivation: Start a Journal

Here's a tool that costs less than ten bucks and punches way above its weight: a journal.

Not a fancy leather-bound thing. Not an app with a subscription. A plain notebook and a pen. Here's why it works:

1. It gets the noise out of your head. Thoughts loop. You replay the same worry six times and it never gets smaller. Writing it down moves it from spinning in your skull to sitting on paper where you can actually look at it. Half the time, it looks smaller on the page than it felt in your head.

2. It turns intentions into plans. "I should really…" dies in your head. "I'm going to…" written on paper with a date next to it is a different animal. Writing forces you to be specific — and specific is where plans actually start.

3. It shows you your own patterns. Flip back a month and you'll see it: the same worry, the same win, the same lesson you keep relearning. Nobody can show you yourself the way your own pages can.

You don't need anything fancy to start — this plain lined journal is under ten dollars. And honestly, the cheap ones are better. You're a lot more likely to actually write in a notebook you aren't afraid to mess up.
