What's Ahead

This page is the schedule for the regular features and seasonal specials on Reason with a View. When something gets set, it shows up here.

Sky Watch — this season (Fall 2026)

Our seasonal guide: Look Up: Virginia's Night Sky Between Now and New Year's. Still to come this fall:

  • Oct 26 — The Hunter's Moon peaks (best viewing the evening of Oct 25 at moonrise) — its own post here
  • Nov 4–5 — Southern Taurid meteors: few, but famous for fireballs
  • Nov 11–12 — Northern Taurids, near a new moon — dark skies
  • Nov 14–16 — Jupiter and Mars meet in the eastern sky before dawn, just over a degree apart
  • Nov 16–17 — Leonid meteors after midnight
  • Nov 24 — The Beaver Moon, a supermoon
  • Dec 13–14 — The Geminids: the strongest meteor shower of the year, and the moon sets early. The one night to circle.
  • Dec 21 — The winter solstice: the longest night of the year
  • Dec 23 — The Cold Moon, a supermoon to close out the year
